The statue, propped on two pillows to have a view of the computer screen, just stared with its blank eyes, stupidly attached to a Platonic Ideal. The girl put a milk silk bow around the figurine’s neck and the statue seemed to relax a bit— still formal, but less serious. It watched the screen from its pedestal, expressionless, as the reality stars sat around in sweatpants. They were pulled and puffed, slathered in thick flesh talc, shaking dressing into salads in plastic containers with their nails flexed off the surface. Ranch smears fogged the vessel: its content fully dressed. As the credits filled the ‘next episode’ bar into a monotonous solid, the girl looked over at the statue, asleep on its pillow. In its abandon, there it was: its broken nose, gel-hard-curls, indoor pallor, all resplendent in its specificity. She closed the silver clam shell to sleep herself. As she drifted, its white apple still glowed, pulsing like a quiet breath.
